Osiris Shoes Feature with Graffiti Artist Risk

Osiris Shoes recently caught up with famous graffiti artist Risky. Risk established his name back in 80s, leading the way in what is now the common place tagging of highway overpasses.  He set the benchmark for others to follow, moving to South California with his parents in 1983. Aged just 16 Risk started to establish himself a name on the high school graffiti scene, starting a competiting graffiti crew called the West Coast Artists. Later, he travelled the world showcasing his talents in graffiti and winning many international competitions.  Risk is an old friend of the guys at Orisis Shoes and has released various designs of Osiris NYC 83 trainers. Checkout our introduction to Risk.

Later on in Risk’s career, he became increasingly involved in various Hollywood community projects. The first of these was a promotional photo shoot for a magazine called Hot Rod, a new skate magazine out at the time. This provided him with the extra exposure he needed to be recognised outside of the graffiti world. He continued to subsidise projects with his work with movie and music producers, including a guest role in the film Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure as well as the music videos for artists such as rapper Ice Cube, Michael Jackson, Punk band bad religion and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

In 1988 RISK travelled to New York to paint trains, making him the first L.A. writer to have his work run, and most likely the last (The New York Metropolitan Transit Authority would later stipulate that all subway cars be free of graffiti before running). In 1989, RISK and Slick were invited to travel to the U.K. to represent the U.S. at the Bridlington International Street Art Competition. They tore the competition to peices and took home the award and silver spray can as trophies.

Risk X Osiris Sneakers

The Summer of 2011 saw the release of the new colourway Risk X  Osiris footwear and proved to be one of the years big sellers. The rugged looks of the NYC 83 Osiris trainer combined with the unique blend of colours, really encapsulated the feel of a lot of Risk’s work. A tribute to such a leader.
